About Omaha's Minimum Wage Ordinance

What’s going on?

Now, Omaha has the chance to do the same.

Omaha City Council President Danny Begley has introduced an ordinance to restore the will of the voters for Omaha workers. If passed, this ordinance would protect what Omahans voted for — a $15 minimum wage with real increases tied to annual inflation rates.

How can I get involved?

Contact your Omaha city council representative and tell them you support Council President Begley's minimum wage ordinance. You can find your city councilor here.

Then, consider testifying at the public hearing at city hall on Tuesday, June 16 at 2:00 PM. More on that below. ⬇️

What’s the timeline?

Tuesday, June 9

Introduction from Council President Begley. No action will be taken by the council and no public comment will be heard at this time.

Tuesday, June 16

Council hears public comment. 🚨

This is our chance to show up in support of the ordinance! If you're able, we'd love to have you join us!

We'll be meeting at 2 PM at the Omaha-Douglas Civic Center located in downtown Omaha at 1819 Farnam St.

Tuesday, June 30

Council votes on ordinance. There will be no public comment on the ordinance at this time.

Reminders for testifying:

  • You will have to go through security, including a metal detector, to enter the building. Leave anything questionable at home.

  • Keep your comments brief. The council president may limit speakers to 3-5 minutes per person to accommodate all testifiers if there is a large turnout.

  • Per city statute, you must state your home address on the record to testify. If you're unable to do so, we encourage you to call, write, or arrange a meeting with your councilor to share your thoughts on the ordinance.

  • Other agenda items will be discussed and heard at this time. There will be a bit of a wait to testify, so build some flex time in your schedule if possible.

If you have any questions, concerns, or want help crafting testimony, please let us know. We’re here to help!
